Chef Art Smith is a two-time James Beard Foundation award winner, former personal chef for Oprah Winfrey, cooked for two Florida governors and has been on the “Today” show, “BBQ Pitmasters” and “Top Chef Masters”. He has restaurants in Naples, Chicago, Atlanta and Washington, D.C. My husband and I have eaten at his Chicago location, Blue Door Kitchen and knew we wanted to try his new Disney Springs location on our next trip.
Homecoming is located in the new Town Center area of Disney Springs. The building is very welcoming with earthy tones and lots of windows. As soon as you walk in you are able to slow down and relax. The windows offer a great view of the springs. A screened porch is located in the rear of the building and is a perfect place to having a relaxing meal.
Shine Bar is located adjacent to the restaurant. We did not have an opportunity to try this area, but I think it would be a great place for gathering with family and friends.
The kitchen is open to the seating area and the servers all wear gingham shirts. It’s a very homey feeling.
We started with the Jasper Board, which included Pimento Cheese, Buttermilk Crackers, Sausage, Ham, Pickles and Candied Pecans. I’m a big Pimento Cheese fan and it was one of the best I have had.
I felt the menu had a great variety of southern-style options, everything from Barbecue to Fish. My husband ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and thought it was good. I had the Kitchen Plate (three sides) and choose Momma’s Mac and Cheese, Iron Skillet Sweet Potatoes and Cheddar Cheese Drop Biscuits. I thought all three were very good and loved ordering three sides as my main meal. We did not save room for Shine Cake but would definitely try it during our next visit.
Overall, I enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. I would recommend asking for a table in the screened porch.
Reservations are available and the Dining Plan is accepted.
