The Lexington, Kentucky Area has some amazing restaurants. Having traveled to the area many times in the past, we have tried many of them. A few on the list are places that we recently visited during my birthday trip, others are from previous visits.
Enjoy reading!
Since we were celebrating my birthday during our last trip to Lexington, I wanted to order a special treat. I was open to pie, cake, cookies, etc., and did a lot of research to find the perfect sweet delight. As soon as I found Martine's, I knew it was the place. It has been in the area since 1999 and moved to its current location in 2018.
The cafe sells celebration & wedding cakes, cupcakes, a variety of pastries, coffee & beverages, breakfast, and lunch.
Marine's website was helpful and made me excited to order my cake.
I sent an email indicating I wanted to order a cake, and they called me to take the order over the phone, and I scheduled a pick-up on my birthday.
Since we were picking up my cake around lunchtime, B and I ordered the Roasted Tomato Bisque Soup and the special of the day, prime rib sandwich, for lunch. Everything was delicious.
After we enjoyed our lunch at our home away from home, we sliced my beautiful cake. I was very impressed with how moist and delicious it was.
I highly recommend Martine's Pasteries for a sweet treat or meal.
Kentucky Native Cafe has become a must-do on any non-winter trip to Lexington. It's a hidden gem located in the middle of Lexington.
Seating is all outside under the trees at the back of a nursery. Table & chairs and picnic tables are spaced apart for social distancing. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors in a quiet and serene setting. Very similar feel to a beer garden in Germany.
The food selection is limited, but everything is very fresh and tasty. Soups, salads, and seasonal dishes rotate daily.
Dogs are welcome (please call confirm this policy).
The Local Taco is a fun place to enjoy delicious Tex-Mex food, and it's within walking distance of the University of Kentuck campus. Open-air dining is available on warm days.
Salads, Tacos, Quesadillas, and Enchiladas are the main items on the menu. Each taco is made fresh with local ingredients. There are many different unique options to select. My favorites are Local BBQ Taco, Tequila Lime Chicken Taco, Steak Taco, and Fajita Quesadilla. The 4 Taco Basket is a great value and provides the opportunity to try a variety of tacos.
The Local Taco is a laid back restaurant to gather with friends and family for yummy food.
We ordered takeout from Wallace Station Deli and Bakery twice during our October vacation. It's about 20-25 minutes outside of Lexington but worth the scenic drive.
Picnic tables are set-up behind the building, in a large area, for social distancing.
I called and ordered our food, and pick up is outside on the deck. For lunch, we picnicked outside, which was so enjoyable. For dinner, we took our food back to Fox Cottage, our home away from home.
The lunch menu includes cold and hot sandwiches, baskets, burgers, salads, and soups. Desserts include cookies, pies, and Martine's Pastries.
I had the pimiento cheese sandwich, which I give an A+. B had a country ham & pimento cheese sandwich that he enjoyed. We decided to purchase a cookie for dessert and it was excellent.
Our dinner was the KY Proud Pot Roast from the Nightly Dinner Specials, which was so very good! It was served in a to-go bowl and was cooked perfectly. The portion size was very generous.
I wished we had ordered a few more times from here because the food was really good and I felt it was a great value.
We are always happy to try a new chocolate store and we found a good one in Lexington. Old Kentucky Chocolates has a few locations in Lexington and is excellent for chocolate treats. My all-time favorite item is the chocolate-covered strawberries, which are always so big and juicy! We typically visit the Southland Dr. location. They have a variety of chocolate items plus a small selection of candy. It's fun to go and try something new during each visit. If you are a University of Kentucky fan, they have a large selection of UK merchandise. Also, they sell some seasonal items.
I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my local Lexington favorites. Next up on the blog is a review of a must-have luggage organizer.
